1. Click on the Medication's tab
2. Click on Add Drug
3. Start typing in the medication you wish to prescribe. A drop down will appear as you type. Select the medication you would like to issue. Take care to ensure you click the right strength.
4. Optimise Rx will help support prescribing decisions in line with NICE UK guidance
5. Click okay
6. Add "Dosage". You can start typing QDS, TDS and the dosage options list will appear. Select the dose most appropriate for the medication.
7. Add in duration/quantity
8. Select if the Rx issue is Acute or Repeat
9. You may want add notes here for the dispensing pharmacy or patient. This may be additional counselling, review date or bloods needed etc [optional]
This will appear on the EPS white slip
10. When everything is done, click issue or add another if another medication is required
11. For repeat prescriptions you can also select Variable use for ad hoc repeats
12. The tabs along the bottom also allow you to see the patients current medications and history
13. For repeat prescriptions, it is good practice to add a review date
14. Click "Approve and Complete" once ready to sign electronically. This will then prompt you to add in your NHS smartcard PIN again.
If there is no EPS nominated pharmacy you must remember to text the patient the EPS barcode to enable them to access the prescription from any pharmacy
15. You can also re-authorise and issue medication from the medication tab by right clicking the medication and selecting issue

17. Add a reason to stop medication for audit purposes
18. You can toggle between current and past medications here
